Carol and I like to garden. We have ¾ of an acre to work with, but we grow most of our veggies in raised beds.
If you live in snow country, your growing season is more limited than other parts of the country. Because our growing season is shortened, many people here start plants indoors before the growing season actually begins. We do that at times, then transfer the plants to our raised beds.
Some garden shops start this time of year with garden shows. It is fun, but still too early to plant things. I usually buy some grass seed at these shows. If you have a lawn here, you pretty much need to reseed every year to maintain it.
If you can afford it, a green house is great for this area. We don’t have a greenhouse, but we do have Row Cover fabric on one of our raised beds and a plastic ‘hoop cover’ on another one. That enables us to start some plants a little early by providing protection and added warmth.
Anyway, after several months of winter, we are raring to go for the garden. But, the reality of the situation is, we are expecting snow this afternoon! In short, it ain’t time yet. Just have to be patient for the right time to plant the good stuff.
